ViewTech Borescopes newest video borescope, the VJ-4, is equipped with many new options to assist with essential maintenance and inspection requirements, including image and video annotation. This video details how to turn image and video annotation on or off, change the image review time, as well as adding a new and deleting previously saved annotations. Finally, we will briefly overview a few features available with image editing.

First, in system settings mode, select annotation and review settings. When image and video annotation are set to Yes, a dialog box will appear each time you capture an image or begin recording a video. You can have image annotation set to Yes, while video annotation is set to No, and vice versa. The time length set with Image Review Time determines the number of seconds the annotation dialog box will be present after capturing an image or starting a video recording. Be sure to select OK if changes need to be saved to your annotation settings, or Cancel if there are not any changes required.

With annotation set to Yes, immediately after an image is captured or video recording has started, the option to Add Annotation appears at the top of the screen. Pressing the Left Control Button or selecting No will dismiss the option prompt. Pressing the Right Control Button or Selecting Yes, will show Annotation Content. Now you can select frequent or previously saved annotations from the Annotation List. You are able to delete saved annotations by pressing the Delete icon, selecting the annotations you wish to delete, and pressing the right control button or selecting Delete to permanently remove the text from the Annotation list.

To add a new annotation first press the Plus icon, then use the keyboard to type the desired text to display. Before adding your annotation, select an appropriate font size and color that will be visible on the inspection image or video. Once the text and settings are ready, pressing the Right Control Button or selecting OK will add the annotation to the image or video.

An extra feature available to markup inspection images can be found within System Settings Image Editing. First begin by pressing and holding the left control button to enter image and video playback or selecting Image Browsing icon when in Live Image mode. When viewing an image you would like to markup, select the Enter Image Editing Mode Icon.

Here you can write free hand on an image, add arrow icons to an image, type text on an image, along with changing the size and color of the font, lines and arrows. If you would like to keep the changes made to the image, be sure to save the image before going back to the previous screen. Selecting the Undo Changes icon will revert to the original image. The WiFi setting enables live VJ-4 video borescope inspection feeds to be streamed to nearby WiFi-enabled devices. Once you have downloaded the VLC Media Player app, begin by accessing the System Settings Menu and selecting WiFi setting, located on the second screen. Select ON to turn on the VJ-4 borescopes WiFi connectivity.

Next, on your Android device, change your WiFi source to “Endoscope” and enter the Endoscope WiFi password displayed on the screen.

Now open the LVC Media Player app and select “New Stream”, followed by typing in the network address which is displayed on the screen. Once this RTSP address has been entered, click the arrow for the inspection stream to begin streaming on your Android device.

Once the inspection has been completed or the live inspection feed no longer needs to be streamed, be sure to turn the WiFi Setting to Off to end sharing connectivity.

ViewTech’s VJ-4 video borescope provides cutting-edge image and video capturing technology utilized during inspections, maintenance, and quality control procedures. This video will demonstrate the 4 options available for downloading images and videos saved to the VJ-4 video borescope.
Each VJ-4 video borescope comes equipped with a USB-C to USB-C cable, a USB-A to USB-C cable, and an SD card with SD card reader. These accessories will be used to download your inspection images and videos to a computer or Android device.

First – the quickest method to download images and videos from the VJ-4 video borescope is with the SD Card and SD card reader. Start by removing the SD card from the borescope, then insert the SD card into the SD card reader. After removing the USB cover, stick the USB into the USB port. Once inserted, the computer will recognize the SD card and display the files with images and videos to view or download.
The following options utilize the USB cables and will require the SD card to remain in the borescope.

Using the USB-C to USB-C cable… first connect the cable with the computer before connecting with the USB-C port on the VJ-4. Once both devices are connected, the computer will recognize the borescope, allowing access to the images and videos through the file explorer.
If your computer is not equipped with a USB-C port, the same process applies when utilizing the USB-A to USB-C cable. Remember to always connect the cable to the computer prior to connecting to the VJ-4 video borescope.

Note – At times your computer might not always auto prompt the borescopes images and videos to display. To manually search, open the file explorer, locate “borescope” under “This PC” and double click to open.

In addition to downloading images and videos to a computer, images and videos can also be downloaded to an Android phone or tablet with the USB-C to USB-C cable. Just like downloading images to a computer, first connect the USB-C cable to the Android device, followed by connecting the cable to the VJ-4. The Android device automatically recognizes the VJ-4 borescope and displays the folders with images and videos that can be saved directly to the device.

If there are ever issues experienced connecting a device to the VJ-4 video borescope, the best remedy to fix the situation is to turn off both the device and borescope, turn them on and attempt the steps again.

However, based on your computer, its current operating system, and your company’s policy for connecting external devices, if these steps do not work, keep in mind you are still able to remove the SD card from the borescope and import images and videos directly with the SD card reader.

The following video details the 5 simple step process to achieve precise results while utilizing ViewTech’s VJ-4 reference measurement. These steps are to first capture a quality inspection image, the second step is to locate the image, the third step is to define the reference line, lines requiring measurement, and the known length, the 4th step is to adjust font or line settings, and finally, step 5 is to end by saving the image.

Step 1
First, to begin using the Reference Measurement feature on the VJ-4 video borescope, you will want to take a still image of the inspection area to measure. To produce the most accurate reference measurements, position the distal tip close to or use the zoom function to capture the entire area that requires measurement within the OLED display before pressing the photo capture trigger. As a best practice, it can be helpful to utilize the image annotation function to quickly recognize any images that require Reference Measurement when searching through numerous files and/or folders.

Step 2
The next step is to locate the saved image or images. Immediately after an image is captured that requires Reference Measurement, users can press and hold the Left Control Button while in Live Image Mode to select Enter Image Editing Mode. If multiple images are saved, it would be easiest to search for an image or images stored by selecting the image browsing icon in the menu navigation screen, locating the image, followed by selecting Enter Image Editing Mode.

Step 3
Once in Image Editing Mode, select Reference Measurement which is represented by the ruler icon. Follow the steps displayed on the screen. Begin by tapping two points with the stylus on the screen, from left to right, to indicate your measurement reference. A red line will appear, along with the pixel value in the reference line field. Next, tap two points with the stylus to indicate the distance or distances you would like to be measured. A green line and its pixel value will appear. After lengths to be measured are plotted, the last prompt is to input a number for the known length of the red reference line. With this example, it is known that the diameter of a penny is 19.05 mm. After entering the length of reference, measurement results will display in green text above each measurement line.

Step 4
Note: if measurement results become truncated or are too small, or the line size needs to be adjusted, users can manipulate the size of font or lines within the Settings Icon. Using the stylus, tap the minus or plus icons to decrease or increase font or line size as needed. It is a best practice to use a font size ranging from 10-15 and line size from 1-3.

Step 5
Finally, be sure to tap the save icon before returning to the Live Image Screen. The reference measurement results will save as a new image, keeping the original image without measurements, allowing both before and after images to easily be shared.
